The Electricity Company of Ghana has initiated measures in the Ashanti Region to retrieve more than GHC3 million owed it by individuals and institutions in the region.
As part of the measures, it has embarked on an exercise to disconnect electricity supply to defaulting individuals and organisations including tertiary institutions and government agencies.
It has also to intensify prosecution of defaulting companies and individuals.

The Ashanti Regional Strategic Business Unit Director of the company, Ing Joseph Amakye, told TV3 debt owed the company in the region was hampering the effective delivery of service.
Notwithstanding, he said the company was doing its best with infrastructural development and other equipment to boost power supply in the region.
He said 2016 was an eventful year for the company due to major structural changes, which saw the old Ashanti East and West regions form the Strategic Business Unit to improve its operations and bring about financial efficiency.
The region, he observed, was hit hard by low revenue collection in 2016.
“This can be attributed to the rolling out of the CMS in E. C.G , the unstable ICT network challenges and also the implementation of the functional strategic business unit structure at the business centres,” he said.
“In addition, the rampant outages at our bulk supply points from GRIDCO also contributed to the low revenue levels in Ashanti strategic business unit,” he added.
Mr Amakye assured consumers the company will in 2017 deliver the entire network projects highlighted in the 2017 budget, intensify the roll out of prepayment meter installation in the region and improve significantly on their revenue.
