Sarah Adwoa Safo said the prevailing issue of missing names of some persons in the electoral roll questions the preparedness of the Electoral Commission (EC) ahead of the Wednesday general elections.

“The EC should come out with another option because nobody has to be disenfranchised in the election,” she told Joy News’ Komla Adom.

The legislator made these remarks when she toured the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency to monitor the Special Voting exercise Thursday.

The special voting exercise was to afford individuals who would have various roles to play in the next week Wednesday’s elections an opportunity to cast their ballot early.

The professional groups taking part in the voting include teachers, military personnel, journalists, electoral officers and other security forces.

The exercise has been fraught with several setbacks key among them is the missing of names of some security and media personnel who were scheduled to vote.

Joy News’ checks across the country revealed many of the people who could not locate their names in the electoral roll are peeved with some threatening to abandon their posts on December 7 to cast their ballot.

The two dominating political parties have expressed their disappointment with the development, urging the Commission to rectify the situation.

The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has threatened to protest over security and media personnel who could not vote in the exercise. The NPP wants the EC to afford personnel who could not register another opportunity.

Although, the exercise across the country has been generally calm with only few skirmishes, Mrs Safo said Ghanaians should brace up for more of such challenges next week.

“It is very unwelcoming. EC must quickly come out with a directive to address the issue,” she said, adding security personnel would be compelled to abandon their post during December 7 elections.

“We want a peaceful, fair and transparent election but the EC has started on a bad note it is not good at all,” she said.

However, the EC in a statement said it would afford individuals who could not vote in the exercise another opportunity to do so in the coming days.
