Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE revealed that an application had been filed by the defeated candidate’s lawyer at the Tamale High Court yesterday, January 11.

A visit at the high court revealed a fixed fee of GH¢2,000 to be paid by prospective litigants in election petition.

Salifu Adam Braimah polled 12,707 votes on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) whiles Dey Abubakari had 12,660 in the parliamentary election.

The NDC candidate was given the shock of his life when he was defeated by 47 votes.

When DAILY GUIDE contacted Ibrahim Dey Abubakari, he confirmed that a petition had been filed at the Tamale High Court over the parliamentary results declared in the Salaga South Constituency.

According to him, there were irregularities in the parliamentary election, one of them being over-voting at three polling stations in the constituency.

The former Member of Parliament for Salaga South stated categorically that he never accepted the results, indicating that his agent did not even sign the declaration sheet.

He disclosed that he and his supporters demanded that the Electoral Commission should recount the votes cast but it refused.

“If the commission had recounted and attended to the over-voting issues, the results would have changed; and they know it,” he stressed.

He accused the commission and the NPP agents of chasing away his agents and “doing their own thing to their advantage.”
