Late highlife musician, Daasebre Gyamenah, is demanding a second funeral to be held at Koforidua in the Eastern Region.
According to the paternal family, the spirit of the late musician said: “this is the only way his soul can rest.”
His paternal uncles—Godfred Oti and S. A. Owusu Boakye—in an interview with Adomonline.com’s Gershon Mortey said: they received calls from childhood friends of the late highlife legend, saying he wants them to hold another funeral in Koforidua where he lived his entire life.
“People tell us that he appears to them in dreams insisting we perform his funeral rites in Koforidua.
He was born in Koforidua. He grew up and lived most of his life there. He built a house there. He stayed in Koforidua and he lived all his life there but was buried in Fante land (Central Region). ” they stated.
Daasebre Gyamenah died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra on Friday, July 29, 2016. Burial date of the late Daasebre Gyamenah was announced after a tussle over who had the right to bury Daasebre Gyamenah ended up in court.
The late musician’s maternal family had gone to court to seek an injunction to stop the paternal family in Koforidua from burying the musician on a proposed October 14 last year.
Both families met and agreed that the late Daasebre Gyamenah would be buried at Anomabo Ndasimam in the Central Region, which came off successfully.
But the decision to perform another funeral rite in Koforidua, they maintained, was not for money but to fulfill Daasebre Gyamenah’s wish for him to rest in perfect peace.
They said the paternal families and the late musician’s fan club have planned to have the funeral on April 1, 2017 at the Omanhene’s Forecourt in Koforidua.
The wake will be held on March 31, 2017 to be followed by the funeral and thanksgiving service at the Koforidua Cathedral on April 1 and 2.
