He insists the attempt to dedicate a ministry to the development of Zongo communities is discriminatory and defies logic.

Speaking on Joy FM’s News Analysis programme, News File, the Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, commended the president’s commitment to improve the conditions in the Zongo communities, but said it could have been done in a more acceptable manner.

“The president could have asked parliament to pass an Act to formulate the policy like what the NDC did with SADA. But creating a whole ministry for a particular group of people is highly unacceptable and flies in the face of the constitution,” the former Lands and Natural Resources.

The MP added that President Akufo-Addo’s readjustment of some ministries which has led to the introduction of a Ministry for Railways Development is misplaced. Sheared

His comments came as he shared his thoughts on the number of ministries under the Nana Akufo-Addo government which currently stands at 36.

The creation of six new ministries has attracted criticisms and backlash from a section of the public, who claim the ministries are just duplication of existing portfolios.

But the president has since explained that the new ministries are going to perform specific roles to ensure the realization of his promises during the campaign.

The six portfolios include:

Monitoring and Evaluation

Railway Development

Business Development

Regional Reorganisation and Development

Inner City and Zongo Development

Special Development Initiatives
