Court Case Hampered Our Campaign – Nduom

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has lamented that its campaign was adversely affected due to the time it spent challenging the disqualification of its flagbearer, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom in court.

Dr. Nduom said “we have had to spend a lot of money on this court case with finding good lawyers, finding good advisors, finding researchers and so on. That comes at a cost so money that we could have used to go to the people to sell our message, we were using it there [court].”

The party sued the Electoral Commission at the Accra High Court for refusing Dr. Nduom’s candidature in the December general elections over some errors on Nduom’s nomination forms.

Meanwhile, the court last Friday ordered the EC to allow the party to amend the forms.

Planned activities were hampered

The flagbearer revealed in an interview on The Big Issue on Saturday [October 29] that the party had spent a lot of money litigating the matter.

He complained that the court proceedings hampered a lot of planned campaign activities saying the sitution demands that they would have to work harder in order to canvass enough votes ahead of the December polls.

“We would have to go and work harder. I am on my way to Winneba, I have already been to Kasoa and Budumburam. We are doubling our efforts and this evening, we will end up in Elmina for a mini rally,” he added.

Court case won’t adversely affect our chances

Dr Nduom said he was hopeful the cost of the case to the party will not negatively affect the party’s chances in the forthcoming elections.

“We are working but it has definitely cost us time and certain things but we have hope. We started this thing on a good foot and we are doing well but we just have to go and pick it up [from there].. I now believe that this year, when the election is over, everybody will see that we have PPP members going into the next parliament.” he said.

He stressed that the PPP will work hard to ensure that Ghana does not become a two-party state.

‘PPP to begin correcting errors on presidential nomination forms’

Dr Nduom also hinted that they will consult their lawyers to confirm the specific errors that need to be corrected on his nomination forms as granted by an Accra High Court, to allow him contest in the upcoming presidential elections.
