A trip back to some of the major markets in Accra for example shows business activities have picked up tremendously.

The euphoria surrounding the festive season was virtually missing about a week ago when Citi Business News visited some markets to ascertain the situation.

But a similar visit to the Makola market, which is one of the biggest markets in Ghana shows a very colorful market, which has been brought to life.

There is countless display of goods ranging from clothes, shoes, accessories; kitchen and house hold goods, Christmas paraphernalia and many more items.

Some shops that barely had enough on display some days ago had been stocked with all sorts of confectionaries this time round.

A shop owner, Rita, attributed the increased sales to the peaceful elections and the feel of the Christmas season.

“It seems right after the elections declaration sales just soared and most of our goods are sold, so I think it’s the excitement and joy, that’s what I can attribute it to.”

Meanwhile another trader Afua, who deals in women’s clothes and hair extensions, described to Citi Business News business is good and anticipated of improved sales even during the festive season proper.

“Thanks to Christmas there are a lot of people in town to shop and I believe that this Christmas in particular will be a good one.”

The positive development appears to be the same for traders in rice, oil, tin tomatoes and others.

“A short while ago and before the election, business was extremely bad but now with the post election peace and relative stability, business is booming as you can see there are so many people here to shop for Christmas,” a retailer of provisions remarked.

But it appears not all vendors are cashing in on the business boom.

One of such is Daniel, who deals in children’s clothes, shoes, toys and books.

He tells Citi Business News he is yet to feel the purchase boom his colleagues are experiencing.

“The sales and the market are still below our standard; Christmas is just around the corner but still the sales are low. You can see so many people moving about the market but sales are still low,” he decried.
