The chiefs and people of the Nkwanta South Constituency have promised to extend the same support given to President John Kufuor to Nana Akufo-Addo to enable him to become president.

They will also elect a parliamentary candidate on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the constituency.

The Chief of Kpassa, Ubor Tasman Konja VI, said this at a campaign rally of the NPP flag bearer at Kpassa.

He said President Kufuor had done a lot for them and the Konkombas and they believed that when the NPP “is in power it will extend the same recognition to us.”

He added that people from the area would be appointed as ministers and deputy ministers, which means that the area would be firmly represented in government.

Addressing a similar mammoth rally at Nkwanta, a leading member of the NPP, Mr Alan Kyerematen, said the overwhelming crowd depicted that the ‘World Bank’ of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was crumbling.

He said an NPP government would ensure that the mainstay industry of the people (yam and cassava cultivation) would be given serious consideration under “The One District —One Factory Policy.”

Mr Kyerematen urged them to vote for the NPP and added that the withdrawal of allowances for teachers and nurses was a bad policy.

Nana Akufo-Addo continued his campaign tour to the Akan Constituency after making whistle stops at Pusupu, Brewaniase and Dapa junction.

He also paid courtesy calls on the Omanhene of Kadjebi, Nana Akompi Finam, and later addressed a rally during which he introduced the parliamentary candidate to the people.

His next destination was the Buem Constituency and Hohoe Constituency.

Relatedly, traffic came to a standstill for more than two hours when a large crowd poured onto the streets and durbar ground to welcome Nana Akufo-Addo to Hohoe.

The crowd was very thick and was described as the largest ever seen in Hohoe in recent times to have been generated by the largest opposition party in the country.

This was during the last leg of Nana Akufo-Addo’s five-day campaign tour of the Volta Region last Thursday.

He started the tour last Monday from Peki through Have to Kpando, Nkonya, Dambai, Chinderi, Kete Krachi, Kpassa, Nkwanta, Pusupu, Brewaniase, Kadjebi and Jasikan and finally to Hohoe.

At Jasikan, enthusiastic supporters defied a downpour to attend the rally.

During the tour, Nana Akufo-Addo introduced parliamentary candidates for the various constituencies.

They are Davis Lovely for South Dayi, Samuel Kwasi Anoma for North Dayi, Wisdom Seneadza for Afadjato South, Elvis Dzampoe for Kpando, Kolmal Onny for Biakoye, Michael Gyato for Krachi East, Innocent Tacheteti for Krachi Nchumuru, Douglas Osei-Nti for Krachi West, David Makinye Batu for Nkwanta North, Cephas Kwadzo Adusei for Nkwanta South, Kofi Adjei Ntim for Akan, Marlon Anipa for Hohoe and Lawrence Kwame Aziale for Buem.

The message of the campaign was centred on the need for change.

Nana Akufo-Addo cited the withdrawal of allowances for trainee nurses and teachers, and decline in the delivery of health care under the National Health Insurance Scheme and promised that when given the mandate, they would be restored.

He said the One District—One Factory concept was feasible and that US$1 million dollar for every constituency would prop up grassroots development.

Nana Akufo-Addo was accompanied on the campaign tour by Ms Elizabeth Ohene, Mr Alan Kyerematen, Madam Otiko Djaba, Nana Owusu Yeboah, Dr Archibald Letsa, Mr Peter John Amewu and other prominent members of the party.
