The Chief of Sefwi Awiokrom Nana Ahwoi Payne I, has allocated 40 acres of land to the government. The land in question is meant for the building of factories in fulfilment of the 1 district-1 factory promise made by the NPP government prior to their election into power.

Speaking on the issue in an interview on Accra-based Rainbow radio, Nana Ahwoi Payne I expressed optimism in President Akufo-Addo’s ability to fulfil the promise. The chief allocates 40 acres of land to Nana Addo’s government, pointing out that it is aimed at facilitating their effort towards implementing the 1 district-1 factory policy.

In response to a question on the type of factory they want the government to establish in the area, the chief explained that the major business of people in the area is cocoa farming and for that reason, they would love to have a factory that will boost their cocoa business – something like “a beverage processing factory or any cocoa related product”.

The NPP’s 1 district-1 factory policy is aimed at job creation which is the pillar and theme of their 2016 electioneering manifesto. According to the NPP leader and now President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, the policy will see to a significant reduction in the rate of unemployment which is currently prevalent in the country.

Since the unveiling of the NPP manifesto prior to the 2016 election, so many of the party’s campaign promises have received varying forms of criticisms and the 0ne-district-one factory policy is not an exception.

Many have described the policy as ‘unfeasible’, ‘unrealistic’, ‘impossible’ and what have you. However, it appears the NPP government is really determined and committed to seeing that they fulfil every promise they made to Ghanaians despite the associated challenges. The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia recently said that they intend to fulfil every of their promises despite the difficult economic situation left behind by the Mahama-led administration.

Meanwhile, the Private Enterprise Federation (PEF) has hinted on plans to collaborate with the president to execute the one-district-one-factory campaign promise. The CEO of PEF, Nana Osei Bonsu had revealed in an interview on 3FM Business, that PEF has already started creating business district coalitions towards the implementation of the policy. According to him, the Akufo-Addo government is not going to carry out the project alone, but with the collaboration of the private sector.
