The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has predicted a resounding win in the Central Region less than eight days to the presidential and parliamentary elections.
The party says the Region which is considered as one of the swing regions in Ghana’s election would vote for it in the upcoming polls.
Speaking to Evans Mensah, host of Joy FM’s Top Story programme, National Coordinator for President Mahama’s 2016 Campaign, Kofi Adams said the “Central Region is a home for us.”
“It used to be a swing Region, but it is now an NDC region. The people are more than willing to vote for President John Mahama,” he said.
According to him, the late President John Evans Atta-Mills who hailed from the Region has handed it to President Mahama after his death in July 2012.
Political parties especially the governing NDC and New Patriotic Party (NPP) have intensified their campaign activities as Ghanaians prepare to elect a president and 275 members of Ghana’s legislature on December 7.
The parties have carefully targeted their campaign activities in regions which are reputed to be crucial in the victory of any presidential candidate.
The three swing regions are the Western, Greater Accra and Central Regions.
The Central Region especially has voted for both the NPP and NDC every eight years.
The NDC won the Region in 1992 and 1996 while the NPP won it in 2000 and 2004. NDC was later to regain its dominance in the Region in 2008 and 2012.
With the Central Region switching the two main parties every eight years, some political pundits have predicted a comfortable victory for the NPP leader, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
But Mr Adams who is also the National Organiser of the NDC said the refrain on the lips of residents of the Region has been that “JM Toaso” which is literary translated as President Mahama should continue.
He said the NDC has undertaken more projects in the Region than the NPP.
He cited the Elmina Fish Processing Factory which would be commissioned by the President Monday evening, Community Day Senior High Schools (SHS), Kotokuraba market and the Cape Coast Sports stadium.
The NPP, Mr Adams said does not mean well for the country, urging Ghanaians not to make the mistake of voting for it.
“There is only one person that can move Ghana forward and that is Mahama and anything apart from this will send the country back,” he said.
He defended the infrastructural projects of the NDC across the country. He said anyone who says the projects would not impact the lives of Ghanaians does care about the prosperity of Ghana.
“When you have money and you fall sick will you go to hospital?” he asked, adding all the projects constructed by government would help Ghanaians.
Meanwhile, the Mr Akufo-Addo and President Mahama are in the Region campaigning. The NPP leader is Upper Denkyira East Constituency while President Mahama is in Upper Denkyira West Constituency.
