An activist of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Carl Wilson is urging President John Mahama to accept the results of the December 7 elections and concede defeat to the opposition candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

President Mahama has been trailing his closest contender with results from less than 65 constituencies left to be declared. Provisional results from 233 out of the 275 constituencies declared, have seen the leader of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) lead with over 53% of votes cast, while the president polled about 45%.

President Mahama on Friday addressed teeming party loyalists who had besieged his residence and assured them he was on course to secure a historic victory for the NDC. Dressed in all-white attire, the President urged them to stay calm until the Electoral Commission released the final results. He also promised “to accept the results, positive or negative”.

But speaking Friday, December 9, 2016 on Onua FM’s elections analysis programme Carl Wilson noted, “from all indications, Akufo-Addo has won the elections”.

The former Chairman of the Confiscation Vehicles Committee (CVC) said the President must save the nation of the escalating tension and concede.

“I believe it’s a premature jubilation…Nana Addo has won the elections based on the fact that he has won more than Six (6) regions so you can’t tell me he has lost the popular votes when it comes to that,” Mr. Wilson told host Kwame Karikari.

Asked if he will be surprised if the results change after the addition of that of the remaining 65 constituencies, Mr. Wilson, who still claims to be a member of the NDC, said he does not see how the EC Chairperson can turn the results in favour of John Mahama.

“It will be difficult for me to accept that. It defies any logic,” he stated.
