The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handed a three-month suspension to Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey for his “poor performance” in the 2018 World Cup qualifier between South Africa and Senegal.
Lamptey was accused of awarding a wrong penalty to the Bafana Bafana, who picked all three points at home over the Teranga Lions in a 2-1 win.
Lamptey’s decision at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, November 12 was questioned by the 2002 World Cup quarter-finalists.
The 2015 SWAG Referee of the Year was suspended together with two other referees from Eritrea and Kenya.
Eritrean Berhe O’Michael and Kenyan Davies Ogenche Omweno are also to sit out for three months.
Rwandan referee Theogene Ndagijimana received a warning for his performance in the Libya-Tunisia clash.
