Brother to late President John Evans Atta Mills -the first Ghanaian leader to die in office, has taken the minds of Ghanaians back to the gloomy evening of the late president’s days. Cadman in a recent radio interview on Starr FM, says he regrets not spending more time with his brother, the late president. Cadman Mills has also revealed the saddening circumstances that surrounded late Mills’ death which many do not know about.

Late President Mills who Cadman referred to as one of the loneliest presidents Ghana ever had, died three years into his tenure; on July 24, 2012, at the 37 Military Hospital. The cause of late Atta Mills’ death remains mysterious as the NPP government has pledged its resolve to reveal to the people of Ghana what actually caused the president his life.

Speaking on Starr FM, Cadman revealed that his brother was subjected to a solitary kind of life at the presidency, in the sense that his ministers and aides never engaged him in conversations. This he said, sometimes caused him (Cadman) to call some of late Mills’ friends to pay him a visit.

Cadman Mills also revealed that that the former president was forced by top NDC officials to hide his sickness from Ghanaians. According to him, there were series of missed medical appointments by the president, which was as a result of massive pressure by the then ruling government.

Since the death of the late president, there have been arguments from political stakeholders regarding the actual cause of his demise. Though he was said to have died from an illness, circumstances surrounding his death had been reportedly vague to the public and the media. This had led to several speculations that there may have been a foul play in late Atta Mills’ death, especially as it occurred six months to the 2012 polls.

Ghana has continued to mourn the late President who is regarded as a great man with unique qualities.

Born at Tarkwa on July 21, 1944,  Late John Evans Atta Mills was a native of Ekumfi Otuam in the Central Region. the laye Achimota old boy who is also an alumnus of the University of Ghana, earned a Ph. D. in Law at the age of 27 from the London University’s School of Oriental and African Studies. This was after completing his doctoral thesis in the area of taxation and economic development.

Mills was Vice-President from 1997 to 2001, under the administration of Jerry John Rawlings. He won the 2008 presidential elections on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), defeating the New Patriotic Party’s candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in a run-off.
