The British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, as part of his official visit to Ghana has met with Kwabena Danso, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Booomers International, a wholly owned Ghanaian company which manufactures bicycles made from bamboo.
The Ghanaian entrepreneur was hosted by Mr. Boris Johnson, who was visiting the country as part of a two-day visit to interact with the newly elected of Ghana, President Akufo-Addo on matters relating to bilateral trade, security and happenings in West Africa, as part of a meeting with leading Ghanaian firms and entrepreneurs that had benefitted from support from the UK government under its Enhancing Growth in New Enterprises (ENGINE) project being implemented by TechnoServe.
Kwabena Danso, who manufactures bamboo bicycles and loud speakers, said the support of a £3,000 seed money and business development services that were provided for by UK’s ENGINE Project had helped increase his production from 100 units a year to about 300. “We keep on increasing, and quality has been improving,” he added.
The interaction was to afford the British Foreign Secretary and his team the opportunity to understand the Ghanaian business systems and the impact the UK’s support system is helping to improve their businesses.
Boris Johnson, a well renowned biking enthusiast, took the opportunity to test ride our bamboo bicycle for the first time, and expressed his profound likeness for Booomers International and its Chief Executive Officer for this unique and environmentally friendly product.
Present at the meeting with the Ghanaian entrepreneurs and businesses were the Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyeremanten, the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin, and many other top dignitaries.
