Bimbilla Youth Chase Off Fact-Finding Mission

A nine-member delegation dispatched by the Northern Regional House of Chiefs to the troubled Bimbilla town on a fact-finding mission over the weekend, was forced to abandon their mission after the youth in the area rained insults on them and accused the House of Chiefs of double standards and bias in handling the protracted chieftaincy dispute.

The delegation led by Tuluwe-Wura Rashid Mahama, had earlier paid a courtesy call on the Regent of Bimbilla, Nyelinbologu Naa Yakubu Andani Dasana, where they appealed to all factions to embrace peace.

Mr Mahama told the Regent of Bimbilla that: “They have sent us today to come and sympathise with you in the first place and to wish you and the rest of your people well. They have sent us to tell you to try and cool down tempers even though a lot of lives have already been lost. But seeing us today, it does not mean we have abandoned you. We are here to sympathise with you and to tell all factions to lay down their tools and then let’s forge ahead in unity. We shouldn’t be fighting each other. We have ways of addressing issues…we have so many curfews in the north. The south is bigger than the north but we can count about six curfews already now in the Northern Region. So, we are here to sympathise with you”.

But Nyelinbologu Naa Yakubu Andani Dasana expressed his displeasure at what he considered as the indifference of the Regional House of Chiefs after the murder of the overlord of the Bimbilla in 2014.

“I don’t know whether I didn’t do wide reading but I’m so sure after the murder of the late overlord, there was no statement from the Regional House of Chiefs. [There were] issues about the butchers [and] disrespect to the throne [but] we didn’t hear anything from the Regional House of Chiefs…” he stated.

That set the tone for what later turned out to be a mission impossible as an interaction session involving the delegation, elders and the youth of Nakpan ended abruptly after the youth refused to engage the team accusing them of bias.
