The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) is urging Ghanaians to be patient with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government on the retrieval of the GH¢51.2 million judgement debt wrongfully paid to embattled businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome by the state.

The GII says inasmuch it is recommending patience, Ghanaians should not forget about the retrieval of the money by constantly pressing and reminding the government of its promise to retrieve the money.

The Corporate Affairs Director at the GII, Michael Boadi, made the appeal in an interview with Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwene on Wednesday.

A Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Martin A. Amidu, on Wednesday backed down on his legendary legal attempt at retrieving the GH¢51.2 million from Mr Woyome.

Mr. Amidu was seeking the permission of the Supreme Court to orally examine Mr. Woyome on the controversial amount but announced before the Court Wednesday that he wants the case withdrawn in view of the commitment by the Akufo-Addo government to retrieve the amount.

When the case was recalled Wednesday, Mr Amidu told the court constituted by single judge Justice Anin Yeboah that the new assurances from the new government, particularly the new Attorney General, Gloria Akuffo, influenced his decision to seek the withdrawal.

Commenting on the issue, Mr. Boadi said “the government has not shown any intention that it will not take the Woyome cash so we should give them some time because Woyome agreed with the then government to pay”.

He added: “So we should wait. It is early days yet so we should not rush in retrieving the money because the government has promise to retrieve the money”.

“It does not need parliamentary approval and it has to use the law. Everything that we are doing to uproot corruption should be based on the law so that it will not be a nine-day wonder.”
