Bangladesh’s largest opposition party Sunday announced a countrywide demonstration on Monday in protest against denial of permission by the law enforcers to hold public rally in a park.
Ex-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s BNP earlier this month sought permission to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to hold the rally at the Dhaka’s lash green Suhrawardy Udyan (garden).
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement at a press conference Sunday in Dhaka, saying they have not been given the permission yet for the rally.
He said, ” DMP did not give us permission perhaps because the ruling party men did not want us to hold the rally.”
