President Mahama thus called on NDC supporters to avoid complacency and to flock to the polling stations to ensure that his target of amassing 56 percent of the votes in the elections is realised.

Addressing the electorate at Tepa in the Ahafo Ano Constituency in the Ashanti Region as part of his campaign tour, President Mahama said “I am here to remind you that on the 7th of December 2016, come out in your numbers and vote massively for me.”

“This time around I am pleading with you. I know by the grace of God we are winning. Let us not be complacent and think that because we are winning, that is it. But this time I want the victory to be resounding so that what happened in 2012 wouldn’t repeat itself.”

President Mahama also posited that if he is able to garner a resounding victory at the polls, the election result would not be disputed by the opposition.

He referenced the Election Petition of 2012 where the New Patriotic Party (NPP) went to the Supreme Court praying it to overturn the EC’s declaration President Mahama as the winner of the 2012 elections on the basis of infractions and irregularities found on results sheets.

“When the result was 50.7 percent, they thought it wasn’t so much so they decided to contest the results in court,” President Mahama noted.

NDC targets 13 parliamentary seats in Ashanti

Also on his tour of the NPP stronghold, President Mahama expressed optimism the NDC will capture at least 13 parliamentary seats in the Ashanti Region in addition to the one million votes the party is vying for.

Addressing NDC supporters at Asawase after a health walk in the town, President Mahama said, “the NDC has only four seats in this region but per my calculations, I am hopeful that we would be able to wrestle nine more to make it 13.”
