Today can report that residents of Sissala in the Upper West Region are currently living in fear.
The situation follows the alarming rate of armed robbery incidence in the township.
According to a resident and an opinion leader, Tonduogu Musah Abass, teachers, petty traders, students among others, were terrified about the development.
“Lives have been lost and businesses have collapsed due to the increased activities of these criminals who are almost on daily basis causing people to live in fear and panic,” Musah Abass lamented.
He told Today in an interview yesterday that though residents on countless occasions have informed the police, the District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ayensu, complained about the lack of adequate personnel to enable them deal with the situation.
Mr. Musah Abass attributed the rise in armed robbery cases to the high “unemployment among the youth and high cost of living which has turned armed robbery into a profitable business venture.”
The robbers, according to him, attack erratically, especially during the day, and rob people of all valuables, leaving their victims stranded.
He cited instances where robbers attacked passengers on buses heading to Burkina Faso from Tumu where they shot two women and left several others sustaining various degrees of injuries.
“We are therefore appealing to this new government and the Ghana Police Service to deploy more police personnel to Sissala, to help curb this menace.”
