The vice-presidential nominee of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Emmanuel Anyidoho, has sounded an alarm that a violent revolution by the people of Ghana comparable to the Arab Spring looms in the country, unless Ghanaians reject the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the December polls.

The Arab Spring was a revolutionary wave of demonstrations, protests, riots, and civil wars in the Arab world that began on 17 December 2010, in Tunisia and spread throughout the countries of the Arab League including Egypt, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Class News’ Kwesi Parker-Wilson, Mr Anyidoho accused the government of doing little to improve the living conditions of the masses.

He said disaster loomed in the country if the PNC did not win the December polls. “There is a looming menace behind us. Everybody heard about the Arab Spring, it’s already looming in the background,” he stated.

Asked if he was foretelling doom, Mr Anyidoho said: “I’m not predicting chaos. What I am saying is that if the right things are done, we can stop any chaos and that means that if [the PNC] is voted in power, we will do the right things which will reduce disaffection in the system. … The right thing is when the PNC wins the election because we are offering a completely new deal to the people of Ghana. We want to restore this economy to the glorious days of Nkrumah.”

He added: “I am not a prophet but the point is it [chaos] could happen. Around March and thereabout, there was OccupyGhana, Kumepreko (demonstrations), there were so many agitations from the TUC etc. Now there is a law and everybody’s hope is in the elections. … Now there is a possibility that the PNC is going to win and if the PNC wins, the possibility of chaos will go away.”
