The youth, who call themselves the Coalition of La Youth Association, are accusing the military of forcefully taking over some of their lands.

Clad in red, the youth, some of whom held placards with messages to express their grievances, marched through some streets in the area amidst chanting.

Jeffery Tetteh, Secretary of the Association, told Citi News the military had gone beyond the boundaries of the lands given to them, and is now attempting to take over more lands in the area.

“The military is trying to take over our properties in La. They’ve gone beyond the lands we gave to them,” he said.

He said previous meetings with the military to express their frustration at the development, have not yielded positive results.

He further called on government to intervene and help them save their lands from further encroachment.

The group last month at a press conference, accused government of failing to take measures to address their concerns.

They accused the military of arbitrarily destroying their farmlands without providing compensation.

The Chairman of the Association, Augustine Nii Amoanai, earlier said President Mahama could have intervened and addressed their grievances.

“A word from our President and Commander in Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, would have brought some order and sanity to bear in this unruly behavior of the military,” he said.

He warned that the action by the military threatens their very existence as a people.

“This is exactly what the government is perpetuating on our lands,” adding that “we are more than convinced that at this moment, the government and its apparatchiks are bent on destroying the culture of our land.”
