Posters of ex-Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur as a presidential aspirant for election 2020 on the ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have emerged, sparking brouhaha in a section of the party.

The nicely-printed posters popped up barely 24 hours after news broke that former President John Dramani Mahama, who lost the 2016 poll to Nana Akufo-Addo (now president) with over one million votes, would not contest the next election.

It has not been confirmed whether Mr. Amissah-Arthur has a hand in the manufacturing of the posters, which have gone viral on several social media platforms, including Facebook and WhatsApp.

The posters have a big picture of smiling Amissah-Arthur, who is wearing a flashy black suit, matched with sea blue shirt and a tie.

It has the NDCs logo, the umbrella, at the right-hand corner and a bold inscription which reads, ‘Amissah-Arthur for 2020’ at the bottom.

The sudden emergence of the posters is reported to have sparked instant confusion and uneasiness among some leading members of the largest opposition political party in the country today.

Sources in the party have hinted that some top members, especially those who are nursing presidential ambition, are not comfortable about the emergence of Mr. Amissah-Arthur’s posters – with almost four years to the next general election.

Reports indicate that some NDC gurus are not handling the situation with kid’s gloves as they believe it is possible that the ex-vice president might have a hand in the manufacturing of the posters. But the manner in which the posters surfaced, according to the party activists, might not help Mr. Amissah-Arthur.

Some party members in Kumasi, who spoke to the paper on condition of anonymity, stated that if indeed, Mr. Amissah-Arthur is nursing the ambition of leading the NDC in the next polls, his performance as vice to President Mahama was so miserable that it would not augur well for the party.
