The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has put in place preventive and rapid response measures to minimise the impact of flooding ahead of the rainy season.

As part of the interventions, the AMA has identified all flood-prone areas in the metropolis and has ascertained safe havens for people who were likely to be affected by flood.

The AMA, in a statement issued in Accra yesterday, signed by its Head of Public Relations, Numo Blafo, said the safe havens could serve as temporary shelter for victims of flood.

It urged the public to support the efforts of the assembly by keeping the environment and drains clean.

“We urge you to clear choked drains within your communities before the onset of the rains to prevent any instance of flooding or mitigate the impact of the flood if it occurs,” it said.

Flood-prone areas and safe havens

Lartebiokorshie is one of the identified flood-prone areas and the save havens identified there are the Salvation Cluster of Schools, the Presby Vocational School, the Town Council Line Park and the Bishop Bowers School.

Others are Osu, Bubiashie, South Odorkor, Mpoase and Korle Bu, with Black Star Square, Cable and Wireless Park, Wesley Grammar School, the Ebenezer Senior High School and the Indafa Park as their respective safe havens.

The rest are Arena, Legon, Dansoman, Mataheko and North Kaneshie, with the Ayalolo Cluster of Schools, the University of Ghana campus, the Carl Reindorf Park, the Roman Catholic School Park and the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex as their respective safe havens.
