Newly elected President, Nana Akufo-Addo has ordered all incumbent Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to vacate their posts with immediate effect. According to the order, all NDC-apponted MMDCES are to hand over duties to Metropolitan/Municipal/District Coordinating Directors (MMDCDs).
This hasty instruction is contained in a letter from the Ministry of Local Government signed by the Local Government Minister nominee, Hajia Alima Mahama.
According to the letter, “By virtue of article 243 (3)(b) of the constitution of the republic, H. E the president of the republic has revoked the appointment of all MMDCEs with immediate effect. In this regard all MMDCEs are directed to handover their relevant duties to MMCDs for further instruction.”
The letter also instructed the MMDCDs to should ensure that the handover processes are carried out smoothly.

Following Nana Addo’s inauguration as President, the NDC-appointed MMDCE’s have received mounting pressure to vacate their positions for new people who will be appointed by the new NPP administration to take over.
Going by this order, the President who is done with appointing his would be ministers is likely to also appoint new MMDCEs in no distant time.
Meanwhile, Nana Addo in fulfillment of his pre-election promise, has said that Ghanaians will start electing their Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives by themselves as from 2018 .
