Akufo-Addo’s 1-Constituency-$1million A Joke – Ablakwa

Deputy Minister of Education, Tertiary, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, wants Ghanaians not to give credence to Akufo-Addo’s campaign promise of allocating US$1million each to the 275 constituencies across the country to assist in development.

In his view, such amount is meager to achieve “anything good” in any of the constituencies across the country.

“This is a big joke. Even one of the Community Day Senior High Schools cost GH?7million which is more than US$1million. Road construction over the last four years in North Tongu also cost more than US$1million. President Mahama has spent over US$70million in North Tongu alone as far as the construction of roads are concerned. So, that promise of one constituency-$1million doesn’t impress the people of North Tongu,” he noted.

He added that the opposition leader’s campaign promise of building one dam in each of the villages in the three northern regions is also a sham and urged the people to remain focused and have confidence in President John Dramani Mahama to continue with his good works.

“The one-village-one-dam is also a joke and doesn’t impress the people of North Tongu. The NPP’s message is outdated and doesn’t impress at all. When you come to North Tongu, we are already using modern irrigation facilities and do not rely on rain-fed dams”, he added.

Mr. Ablakwa who is also the MP for North Tongu made these remarks when he addressed supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) at his campaign launch at Aveyime in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region on Sunday.

The campaign dubbed “North Tongu agenda 97% for Mahama and Torgbe Worgbedzi” aims at helping President Mahama and Mr. Ablakwa retain political power and the Parliamentary seat of the area for the NDC in the upcoming general elections.

Commenting further, the outspoken deputy Education Minister also criticized Akufo-Addo’s one-district-one-factory policy, noting that a vote for the opposition leader and the NPP will take the country backwards since Mahama and the NDC are already doing more for the people.

“We have more than five factories in North Tongu and I can tell you that President Mahama is doing same in other constituencies. The Musahati firm has even jobs to over 700 people and the remaining four factories are also employing. So, the one-district-one-factory policy will only take this country backwards,” he averred.
