Men would always read meanings into everything that happens around us. Shortly after the Electoral Commission announced that Nana Akufo Addo would be occupying the number five spot on the ballot paper, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of his party has linked his position to the five smooth stones David picked before facing Goliath.

In a brief chat with Peacefmonline.com Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman ‘Wontumi’ noted that the number five represents a good omen for the New Patriotic Party.

In his view, the same manner picked up five smooth stones to kill Goliath; Nana Akufo Addo would repeat the same triumph against President Mahama in the aftermath of the December 7the presidential elections.

“Nana is going to stone Mahama, and we would all see it”, he said.

He related this to 1 Samuel vrs 40 which reads: Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.

He then added 1 Samuel vrs 50 which also reads: So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him.

Political parties contesting this year’s Presidential elections have picked positions on the ballot papers.

At a balloting session at the Electoral Commission (EC) headquarters in Accra on Wednesday evening, moments after announcing which presidential candidates have qualified to be on the ballot paper, the Convention People’s Party chose the first position followed by the National Democratic Party (NDP) at second and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) at third position.

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) picked fourth (4th) and fifth (5) spot respectively for the upcoming polls.

People’s National Convention (PNC) will be sixth on the ballot paper and the independent candidate Jacob Osei Yeboah (JOY) in the seventh position.
