Two Chiefs in the Brong Ahafo Region have thanked the 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for his show of maturity in preserving the nation’s peace in the aftermath of the disputed elections of 2012.

Nana Baffuor Tutu Asare II, Chief of Jinijini in Berekum West, and Aturu Nkonkonkyea II, Mpoasu-Japekromanhene in Jaman South, made this known when Nana Akufo-Addo paid separate courtesy calls on them on Saturday, November 12, 2016, as part of his 4-day tour of the Brong Ahafo Region.

At the palace of Nana Baffuor Tutu Asare II, the Jinijini Chief noted that he had paid close attention to the campaigns of the various political parties, and could say with the utmost confidence that the campaign of the NPP flagbearer is always based on issues and devoid of insults against opponents.

“Akufo-Addo’s messages are always peaceful. We know he’s a peaceful man, evident in his conduct in the aftermath of the disputed 2012 elections. There could have been violence in the country, but, Nana and the NPP maintained the peace of the nation. We thank him for that,” he said.

The NPP flagbearer’s reliance on God for victory in the December 7 polls, the Jinijini Chief explained, “will give you victory this year. If you say the ‘the battle is the Lord’s’, then God will fight this battle for you.”

Endorsing the NPP’s 2016 manifesto, he indicated that policies such as the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme, which will ensure that each of the 275 constituencies receives the equivalent of $1 million a year to address developmental issues, are welcome, explaining that “with this policy, we know development will be forthcoming in Berekum West. We can extend electricity to towns not on the national grid, and construct roads.”

On the 1-Village-1-Dam policy, which is aimed at ensuring all year round agriculture in the 3 Northern Regions through the construction of irrigation facilities, Nana Baffuor Tutu Asare II appealed to the NPP flagbearer to extend this policy also to the Brong Ahafo Region.

“All our farms in Jinijini were destroyed this year. We were unable to harvest our crops due to a lack of rain. If we have irrigational facilities here, akin to what you are proposing for the North, I believe it will make agriculture attractive for the youth and thereby create jobs for them,” he added.

In concluding, Nana Baffuor Tutu Asare II appealed to the NPP flagbearer to help residents of the region retrieve monies lost to the ‘DKM’, ‘God is Love’ microfinance scams that hit the region. These scams, according to the Chief, have led to the loss of incomes for families and even death of persons who invested monies in these microfinance institutions.

At Japekrom, Aturu Nkonkonkyea II, told the NPP flagbearer that “we stand for good governance; we stand for a leader who will improve our livelihoods and guarantee a future for future generations unborn; we stand for a leader who has a vision and policies to move Ghana forward so we can get our fair share of the national cake.”

He praised Nana Akufo-Addo for his true show of love for Ghana, explaining that “he showed maturity when it was needed most, in the aftermath of the disputed 2012 elections. You accepted the Supreme Court’s verdict, and it is for this reason that we are enjoying peace as a nation.”

Aturu Nkonkonkyea II urged all political parties to follow the lead of the NPP flagbearer “and campaign on issues, and not focus on how beautiful or ugly one is, or focus on the stature of a person. Elections are about what you can do for the people when voted into power.”
