Disqualified presidential nominee of Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) Madam Akua Donkor has called on members and executives of the party not to lose hope as the party bounces back in 2020 to contest in the presidential race.

Akua Donkor and twelve others were on Monday disqualified by the Electoral Commission (EC) for failing to meet the needed requirements.

Consoling her supporters on Abusua FM’s Abusua Nkommo hosted by Kwame Adinkrah, she explained that it would be pointless for the supporters to engage in any violence related activity regarding her disqualification.

She admitted that her nomination form was freight with errors as pointed out by the EC.

‘I want to tell my supporters to keep calm, they shouldn’t worry God’s time is the best, we will contest in 2020. Mistakes are bound to happen. I accept the blame that my form was freight with errors as stated by the EC, I don’t think they would accuse me wrongly, I visited all the constituencies with my form to be signed.

There was no mistake on my ID card but there were problems with the signatures because most of the subscribers were illiterates like myself who deceived me by appending their signatures causing problems for us. EC officials were able to detect the mistakes because they know all the ID card numbers in the various constituencies.

Another issue has to do with my running mate who is 18 years old who doesn’t qualify by law to be in that position. She is hardworking and knowledgeable in politics, she even studied politics in school so wanted to groom her, ’ she explained.

She assured that the mistakes will not repeat itself when she contests the presidential race in 2020.

She expressed satisfaction that the filing money would be returned to her.

Madam Akua Donkor called on supporters of the party to rally behind the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to be retained in January 7, 2017.

‘I am calling on my supporters to vote for President Mahama during the elections to continue with his good works,’ she said.

She advised parliamentary candidates of the party not to despair if they lose the elections.
