Akomea Mocks Gov’t’s Record In Fighting Judgement Debt

The New Party is bewildered by the governing party’s claim of being the fiercest judgment debt fighter in recent times.

Nana Akomea said such a claim is not only false but imaginary as well.

The Communications Ministry in its last meet the press series held Monday descended heavily on the opposition New Patriotic Party, accusing it of waging a campaign of lies and deceit.

The sector Minister Dr Omane Boamah was also not happy with what he said was the politicization of the judgment debt syndrome, a vehicle through which the state has lost several millions of cedis.

He said contrary to the criticism against the Mahama administration, it is one of the diligent government in recent years fighting the canker of judgment debt.

According to him, the Mahama government and its Attorney General have saved the country over $1 billion in judgment debts, some of which were potential liabilities by officers of the New Patriotic Party.

Dr Omane Boamah mentioned the Great Cape scandal as one of the judgement debt scandals supervised by the then Attorney General under the Kufuor administration Nana Akufo Addo.

He wondered why such judgment debt scandals have not found space and expression in the country’s media as the Woyome judgment scandal has in recent years.

In a rebuttal, the NPP’s Director of Communication said every concerned Ghanaian, not just the NPP is worried about the legendary status the judgment debt has gotten to.

He cited a Supreme Court judge who berated the government for failing to retrieve the Woyome debt, despite a court order.

Nana Akomea cited another judge who accused the government of engaging in a scheme to create loot and share the country’s limited resources.

The NPP Director of Communications cannot understand how a government with such a record will turn around and claim to be the government fit to fight the judgment debt scandal.

He said the Great Cape scandal cannot be blamed on the Nana Akufo-Addo because it started in 1999, even before the NPP came into power.

He added, as Attorney General Nana Akufo-Addo followed the investigations and report by his predecessor and cannot be said to be guilty in promoting judgment debt.

He was surprised all the more that government is giving another contract to Woyome in spite of everything that has happened.
