Aglow Internaitonal Ghana, a Christian prayer group, has challenged appointees of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to live up to expectation by eschewing all negative tendencies, including a penchant to amass wealth.

“We pray that ministers, deputy ministers and all other people appointed by the President would not go behind him to collect bribe or anything in his name. Let us pray that people will serve the interest of the nation and not their personal interests,” the National Prayer Director of the Ministry, Mrs Gifty Afenyi-Dadzie, said last Saturday.

She was speaking at a monthly prayer and thanksgiving event at the Black Star Square in Accra which was attended by hundreds of people.

According to Mrs Afenyi-Dadzie, there is the need to rid the country of corruption for accelerated development.

Appreciation

Following the instability in some countries in the sub-region through the activities of terrorists, the prayer director noted that Ghana had a lot to be grateful for the prevailing peace in the country.

Waving miniature Ghana flags, Mrs Afenyi-Dadzie, who led the prayers, referred to a number of scriptures, including Psalm 113, prayed for the leadership of the country to be imbibed with the requisite knowledge and the ability to resolve challenges confronting the country.

“Let us pray to God to give our leaders direction so that decisions they take will bring lasting solution to our problems,” she said.

A board on which names of various ministries had been written to symbolically represent the government was used by the congregation to pray for the nation.

Mrs Afenyi-Dadzie also asked the congregation to pray against saboteurs and all persons who did not want the country’s challenges to be resolved because of their personal interests.

They also prayed for the opposition and the media, urging them to be constructive in their work.

Among the prayer list were pupils and students.

Discipline

Touching on indiscipline in the Ghanaian society, she mentioned the take-over of pedestrian walkways by traders at major intersections such as the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, thus destroying the vegetation and also endangering the lives of pedestrians.

“Let us pray for those who litter the environment. Those who throw refuse in the drains when it is raining and those who have no respect for the environment,” she said.

Mrs Afenyi-Dadzie, who is also a former Member of the Council of State and President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), observed that while God’s blessings were spiritual, it was also important that citizens behaved responsibly.
