Former Executive Director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative and anti-corruption campaigner Vitus Azeem is accusing the Attorney General of failing in her attempt to retrieve the GH¢51.2 million judgement debt from Alfred Woyome.
His comment comes immediately after the Deputy Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, had criticized the Supreme Court for erring in its ruling on the case. Dr. Ayine believes the apex court has set a bad precedent following its decision to allow Martin Amidu to examine Mr Woyome.
“This is a very bad precedent that we are setting. It is not going to help in the development of our constitutional law,” But speaking with 3FM’s Midday News, Mr. Azeem indicated that the latest position of the Attorney General’s Department rather deepens the perception of its failure.
He was answering a question on whether the Attorney General, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, has failed in her bid to retrieve the money from the businessman. “I think so, especially when they go to court and say no he has no locus.
They should not pursue this it is because they are not doing what they are expected to do or they are not succeeding in what they are expected to do and that Martin Amidu has to come in.” He added: “If they had been able to do this in the last two years this matter wouldn’t have gone before the Supreme Court.
So in a lay man’s point of view what is happening is the way of helping to recover the money and in any case, the Supreme Court is the highest court of the land.”
