President Mahama, in a speech described how Africans have a tendency to complain and not appreciate what they have or how far have they have come.
The President was speaking at the 40th anniversary celebration of the establishment of the University of Ilorin in Nigeria.
According to President Mahama, Africans are fond of complaining too much, rather than celebrating how far we have come.
What I have noticed is that it is our tendency in Africa to speak of what we do not have, how we are lacking in this or that, why we have not got where other more developed continents are, and who might possibly be to blame for this
he said.
The President said instead of endless complaining, we should be proud of how well we’ve done to throw of the shackles of our colonial past; as well as the endless military interventions that led to despotic regimes.
Being a democracy is not really much of anything to celebrate; it’s pretty much par for the course in the world now. Creating an environment where your citizens are faring extremely well; now that’s something worth celebrating.
