The outspoken Northern Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, has admonished suspended national chairman Paul Afoko, to render an unqualified apology to the party over his failed lawsuit.

The former NPP National Chairman dragged the party to court to challenge his suspension because in his view, the party did not follow due procedures in suspending him.

But a Human Rights Court in Accra on Monday dismissed the lawsuit on grounds that it lacked merit.

The Northern Regional NPP Chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu, in a Citi News interview, hailed the judgment and asked Paul Afoko to apologize to the party’s hierarchy.

He said the former NPP national Chairman’s lawsuit was needless and insists he should apologize for his conduct.

“We welcome what the court has done and that is the right decision. He took to the court and the court has demonstrated the right decision. He should apologize to the hierarchy of the party because the path he took was too bad.”

Daniel Bugri Naabu however advocated Paul Afoko’s return to the NPP where he politically belongs, saying, and we believe that Paul Afoko will come back. He is an NPP, no doubt. He is our brother, a northerner and we want him. We will welcome him and so he should come back,” Bugri Naabu stressed.

Afoko considering appeal

Meanwhile Paul Afoko has said he disagrees with the High Court’s decision to dismiss his suit against the NPP. Mr. Afoko has however said he has accepted the Court’s decision.

A statement signed by the suspended NPP Chairman’s Spokesperson, Nana Yaw Osei, indicated that Mr. Afoko’s legal team was considering an appeal against the decision. “…lawyers for Mr. Afoko will carefully study the judgment and launch an appeal against the decision at the appropriate time,” the statement said. It further urged party members to remain calm following the ruling and refrain from “any unnecessary arguments but work to make the party supreme but not of personalities.”
