The Member of Parliament for Juaboso said the appointments by the incoming president is not only alien to the country, it is as well unconstitutional. Hon. Akandoh decides to speak up against Addo’s  decision to name certain individuals he would be working with during the first term of his tenure even before being sworn in.

Although most people are praising the incoming president for the kind of appointment he has started making, the parliamentarian insisted that he has gone through the constitution, but is unable to find any provision that gives a president-elect the power to appoint ministers before he is sworn in.

Shortly after touring the Flagstaff House yesterday, Nana Akufo organised a press briefing at his residence. In the briefing, he announced some members of his cabinet ahead of his swearing in.

In a swift reaction, the parliamentarian and outgoing minister of  Natural Resources said it is unconstitutional.

“What Nana Addo has done is alien to the constitution of the land…he should know governance is a serious business,” he said.  He added that Addo is not the president yet, and “only the President can make an appointment. We always have one president, not two. This is a democratic country so we have to abide by our rules and regulations”.
