57 Volta Chiefs Who Endorsed Akufo-Addo Lack Respect Among Their People

The Greater Accra Region Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Anthony Nukpenu has condemned the 57 Volta Region chiefs, who recently declared support for the 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, saying they lack respect and dignity among their own people.

According to him, “they should not be taken serious”.

His comment was made in an interview following the massive endorsement given to the NPP flagbearer by some chiefs in NDC’s stronghold after he paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Nkwanta Akyode Traditional Area, Nana Obonbo Sewura Lipuwura, on Wednesday, October 26 2016.

The Chiefs are made up of five paramount chiefs and 52 sub-chiefs.

According to the chiefs who spoke through the Paramount Chief of Nkwanta Akyode Traditional Area said “they have had the opportunity to witness governance under the NPP and National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the last 16 years, and are under no illusion that a government led by the NPP represents Ghana’s best hope of offering her citizens progress and prosperity”.

But comparing the chiefs who graced President Mahama’s campaign during his tour to the Volta Region to that of Nana Akufo- Addo’s, Mr. Nukpenu disclosed Mahama’s are far better and more respected than Akufo-Addo’s.

He further described Nana Akufo-Addo’s tour of the Region as a flamboyant fashion show.

Indicating that the NDC is not shaken by the recent endorsement of Nana Addo by Voltarians, he warned NPP to stop predicting its party’s chances of increasing the 23% percentage of votes gained from the Region in the previous elections (2012) to 30% this year, saying it is impossible that if care is not taken it will even be squashed.

The Greater Accra Regional Organizer vowed to retire from politics should NPP manage to obtain at least even one seat in the Volta Region in this year’s elections.
