Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu has backed a full scale investigation into a bribery allegation, which has become an albatross on the neck of Parliament’s Appointment Committee over the weekend.

A member of the committee had claimed that a presidential nominee for the Energy Ministry attempted bribing some members with 3,000 cedis each.

The Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga who first made the allegation said the MPs, mainly from the Minority side, rejected the money when they learnt it was coming from Mr. Boakye Agyarko who has since been sworn in by the president as the Minister of Energy.

Speaking to the issue when the Appointments Committee sat Monday to vet the president’s nominee for Monitoring and Evaluation, Haruna Iddrisu, who happens to be the ranking member on the committee, said the allegations brings the integrity of the committee into question.

“I will like to break my silence on it.

“I expect that the Speaker of Parliament and leadership will take up the matter and establish the truth or otherwise, what is being speculated around, which is undermining the integrity and the work of this committee.”

The Minority Leader believes investigation into the matter would bring finality to the allegation.

“I will and we will support full scale of investigation into establishing the veracity or otherwise of any matter that bothers on reputation of persons, reputation of parliament, including a full scale parliamentary enquiry,” he stressed.
