Currently, the question of who becomes the next Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has created political tension in the area.

The long list of aspiring nominees include some constituency executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) such as Emmanuel Narteh-Yoe, the Chairman; Michael Amoah Addo, First Vice Chairman/Procumbent Officer and the Secretary, Ernest Lartey.

A senior journalist – News Editor of TV Africa – Amoadu Christian Ohene (popularly called AC Ohene); Ransford Agyapong, former Member of Parliament for Suhum; Joshua Addo Larbi; Fredrick Ofosu; Tei Gyamgbah and J. K. Ameyaw, among others, are said to have filled their forms and waiting to be nominated by President Akufo-Addo.

Standing tall among the rest is the former Suhum legislator, Mr Ranford Agyapong, as most of the youth are appealing to the president to nominate him to be the next MCE.

There is apparently tough competition in the districts such as Akropong – with 12 people contesting – Akwatia, Nkawkaw, Asuogyaman, Ofoase/Ayiribi, Akim Oda, Akim Swedru, Somanya, Odumase-Krobo, Nsawam, Adeiso, Asamankese and Mpraeso.

The list of the aspiring MCEs who this paper gathered, qualify to occupy the office, is reportedly giving serious headache to the regional executives of the New Patriotic Party as they are not sure of whom to recommend and whom to drop before the final list is submitted to the president.
