We Were Wrong For Not Sacking Razak Brimah – George Afriyie

The management committee chairman of the Black Stars, Mr. George Afriyie has admitted that officials of the Stars probably were wrong for not kicking Razak Brimah out of camp after the goalkeeper’s rant in a recorded video he put on Facebook.

The shot-stopper, who was Ghana’s first choice at the AFCON in Gabon, stunned the entire nation by dishing out all sorts of slurs and directing shots at his detractors even going as far as using the ‘F’ word.

The rant incurred the wrath of the Ghanaian populace as fans showed disapproval with the way Brimah came out to voice his frustrations, with some sections even calling for his dismissal from the team.

The timing was terrible as the Stars had just won the quarter-final encounter with DR Congo 2-1 and had progressed into the semi-final stage but nonetheless, handlers had decided unanimously to kick him out of camp.

Speaking to Nhyria FM in Kumasi, George Afriyie has, however, admitted they were ready to proceed with their decision on Razak but kept him in the team on Avram Grant’s behest.

“Per the interpretations of Ghanaians, I think we might have been wrong for the decision we took. We had already decided to dismiss him from camp but the coach wanted him to stay. The Stars were on course to claiming back the support of the fans and were on the right path until Razak’s unfortunate comments”.

The decision to keep Brimah in the team did not really do a lot anyway, as the Stars succumbed at the semi-final stage with a 2-0 loss to eventual winners Cameroon; with Brimah and Boye both at fault for the first goal conceded.

The Stars then fell to a 1-0 loss to Burkina Faso in the 3rd place play-off game therefore placing 4th for the third time in the last four AFCONs.
