‘We Have Not Funds To Secure A Friendly Match’

Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Ibrahim Saanie Daara has revealed that the FA is short on budget to organise international friendly matches for the Black Stars.

Report went rife that the Black Stars were lining up two friendly games against Iceland and Ivory Coast in the next international window.

But the deputy sports minister, Pius Enam Hadzide debuked reports and stated they have had a dialogue with the nation’s football governing body that his outfit will no longer fund any Black Stars international friendly encounter.

The minister’s disclosure has culminated in the Black Stars pulling out from a friendly encounter with the Reggae Boys of Jamaica in the upcoming international break.

“We don’t have any opponents to play against for this window,” Sannie Daraa told the media.

“The only match we have lined up will be in June when we take on Iceland in a pre- World Cup friendly.

“It is about cost and this is a decision the country has to make.

“If we don’t have friendly matches we must organise them and pay for it.

“If the funds are not available there is very little we can do about it,” Communications Director of the GFA Ibrahim Saani Daara revealed.

Meanwhile, the Stars have only secured a friendly against World cup debutant Iceland in June.
