The President’s presence at the Adidas House in Accra last Tuesday night was to affirm his government’s commitment to developing all sporting disciplines, including athletics programme aimed at unearthing and developing top talents in sprints.

“Football is not the only sport in the country,” he said after endorsing the programme initiated by former national athletics star and onetime Olympian, Reks Brobbey, to help promote athletics in the country, thus his decision to endorse the event.

“I was impressed by their visit to me at the Presidency and the quest to promote the sports in the country, so I decided to support it.

“My government is committed to this initiative because football is not the only sport in the country and I will present eight autographed trophies to be presented to the winners,” the President added.

The Ghana’s Fastest Human is a seven-year sprint programme open to both male and female athletes with an aim to unearth talents that will restore Ghana to its glorious heights in sprint athletics.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Isaac Asiamah, made a promise that under his leadership, athletics would be given a boost to create more heroes in the country which would also help in job creation, as well as prevent crime.

Reks Brobby, who represented Ghana at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, thanked President Akufo-Addo for endorsing the programme and pledged the commitment of the organisers to ensure the competition achieved greater heights.
