It was very disappointing as fans failed to turn up at the Accra Sports Stadium last weekend to watch the Black Stars of Ghana play against the Amavubes of Rwanda in the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Accra Sports Stadium has a capacity of 40,000 and fans at the stadium could not even sum up to 10,000 to support to the senior national soccer team.

This has been one of the poorest attendances in terms of fans going to watch the Black Stars play, especially at the Accra Sports Stadium, in recent years.

The attendance for the Mozambique game in June was very i42862834mpressive.

The Popular stand or Osu stand was virtually empty, as well as the Accra Conference Centre end of the field.

The Finder’s interaction with some of the fans at the stadium indicated that the impasse between the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Sports Ministry was a leading factor to the poor attendance at the game.

Despite the poor attendance at the stadium, the Stars also failed to shine on match day as they were held up to a draw by the away team.

Samuel Tetteh scored his first goal for the Stars in the 36th minute and Hakizimwa Muhadjiri got the equaliser for Rwanda through a perfectly converted free kick which could have been saved by Razark Brimah. The game ended 1-1.

Avram Grant after the game said: “I am very impressed with the performance of my players despite we didn’t win the match today; we had our chances but we couldn’t score, but more importantly the performance was good”.

Concerning the poor attendance at the stadium, he said: “I understand them for not coming because they have heard so many negative things and I hoped the fans will stop listening to these negative things and give their unflinching support to the team”.

The Black Stars topped the group with 14 points.
