Nyantakyi’s Resignation Will Not Guarantee Success

Popular football pundit Maxwell Asabre has cautioned that the resignation of the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kwesi Nyantakyi will not translate into the success of our football.

Asabre who was reacting to calls for the resignation of the FA head in an interview on Asempa FM, said there was no assurance that when Nyantakyi quits his post, Ghana football will be better.

“If club owners are not managing their clubs well, why blame Nyantakyi? Look at how team owners handle their players, and affairs of their clubs. How do you expect Nyantakyi to take the blame when club owners pay their players less than these players deserve? Do we expect Nyantakyi to come and pay the salaries of the players of other clubs? “, he lamented.

“During the days when our football was handled by administrators who had money to spend and who knew how to manage football, the flag of Ghana was always held aloft on the continent. We need administrators who will not spend all their funds on “juju” (Black magic) but will rather use such funds to motivate their players”, he added.

“I agree with the idea that part of the Black Stars funding from GNPC be used to cater for the local football. This I think is a laudable idea and must be applied to the fullest, but for Nyantakyi resigning, I beg to differ”, he concluded.

GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi has been asked by many football fans to relinquish his post since in their view, he has failed to improve Ghana football.

According to these fans, our local football has lost its shine under his tenure, while the other national football teams suffer because he has given all his attention to the Black Stars.

But there are those who also argue that, Nyantakyi is not to blame for the downward spiral of our football since according to them, Nyantakyi has sent Ghana to higher pedestal of world football.
