Medeama SC thrash Attram De Visser in extra time to reach MTN FA Cup semi-finals
Medeama SC secured a dramatic victory over Attram De Visser in extra time to advance to the semi-finals of the 2025/26 MTN FA Cup. The match, played at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, ended in a 3-1 triumph for the Western Region side after a tense and physical encounter that went beyond regulation time.
The game began with both teams showing intent, but Medeama’s superior midfield control and sharp attacking movements proved decisive. The hosts opened the scoring in the 38th minute through a well-placed strike by midfielder Samuel Opare. Attram De Visser responded with a goal from forward Kwadwo Owusu in the 62nd minute, leveling the score and pushing the match into extra time.
In the first half of extra time, Medeama regained control. Captain Kofi Opare netted a powerful header in the 102nd minute, followed by a late insurance goal from substitute Daniel Baffour in the 118th minute. The victory marked Medeama’s first appearance in the FA Cup semi-finals since 2021, reigniting hopes of their first major trophy since 2015.
Manager John Mensah praised his players’ resilience and discipline. “We knew it would be tough against a team that plays with heart and organization,” he said. “The boys stayed focused and executed the plan. This is a step closer to a dream we’ve been building for years.”
Attram De Visser, a youth-focused club affiliated with the Dutch football academy system, showed commendable grit despite the loss. Their head coach, Patrick Osei, acknowledged the challenge. “We’re proud of how we competed. Medeama was better on the day, but we’re learning and growing.”
The win sets up a semi-final clash between Medeama and either Dreams FC or Nations FC, depending on the outcome of the other quarter-final. The final four fixtures are scheduled for early April, with the final set for May 2026 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
With their momentum building, Medeama fans are now turning their attention to a potential cup triumph. A victory in the final would mark a historic moment for the club and a major milestone in their resurgence under the current management.
