Asante Kotoko striker Yakubu Mohammed is concerned about his current low form in the Ghana Premier League.

The 26-year-old has scored four goals after nine matches but failed to find the target in his last three outings. Although Kotoko are leading the log with 18 points, a section of the supporters have been critical with the former Ashanti Gold forward’s output so far and want him benched in subsequent matches.

“I started the season very well but things are not working well currently as expected, so it has got me a bit frustrated,” Yakubu told Goal.

“Any striker who has big plans in life will admit that playing four games with just one goal brings lots of pressure especially when your side is not winning and teammates are also not finding the target. I have heard the criticisms from a section of the supporters but I’m calm despite their calls.

“These supporters were praising me few weeks ago when I was the topscorer in almost every game at a point so, I have to improve to make them happy once again. Moreover, we are hoping that we will win the league trophy at the end so I need to position myself well in the final third and also direct my shots on target,” he added.

Kotoko will travel to Tarkwa to play Medeama on Wednesday and Yakubu wants the supporters to chant all through the game.

“The players will do their best so I expect the supporters to also sing and chant throughout the game so we can win all three points. Their continuous support always does the trick especially during away games. You just watch the crowd and realise that there are thousands of people counting on you to be happy so you have to double your effort,” he said.

Kotoko did not taste a defeat in their last three visits to Tarkwa.
