The win did not only hand the Mauve and Yellows the crucial three points, but it also helped them to end the hold the Porcupine Warriors had had on them at Tarkwa for the past six seasons.

Two penalties within 15 minutes, both converted by defender Paul Aidoo, helped Medeama ditch Kotoko who had taken the lead on the 32nd minute from an Ahmed Adams header.

With a string of unimpressive results in their last two games, Kotoko fans were hopeful that their side would again nab Medeama in their own backyard, and when Adams put them ahead, they felt it was going to be their day again.

However, that was not to be as Medeama pressurised their guests and earned two penalties in the last 15 minutes of the game, to dash the hope of the fans who had followed Kotoko to Tarkwa.

Adams opened the scoring with a powerful header on 32 minutes from a well-taken corner by Michael Akuffu. The strong defender, left unchallenged in the penalty area, soared above his markers to nod home to give the Porcupine Warriors the advantage in the first 45 minutes.

However, Medeama took advantage of the substitution of Michael Akuffu, who had worked decently in the Kotoko midfield and frustrated the home side. Mohammed Awal who came on for Akuffo could not do the same job and rather allowed Medeama to take over and in their harrassment of the Kotoko goal area, earned the two penalties which Aidoo converted.

The win lifted Medeama out of the relegation zone, while Kotoko lost their lead to WAFA.
