Ghana Is Bigger Than Any Political Party!

Two- time Bantamweight World Champion Joseph “KingKong” Agbeko has attributed his long absence from the ring to a legal tussle between his ex-promoter Don King and himself.

This legal battle lingered on till Last year May before it saw resolution. The orthodox boxer again suffered two more major setbacks when his bouts slated for November 7 last year and February this year in Las Vegas were also cancelled.

Speaking exclusively to Sports 24, Agbeko admitted staying away from the ring will definitely cause a bit of ineptness but he is up to the task any day a challenge comes up.

‘’ Even though am not fighting, I have been in the gym for some time training. I know staying out of the ring will cause a little bit rustiness but with my hard work in the gym, the rustiness wouldn’t be able to show . Am hoping to bring back boxing glory to Ghana soon.

The Pugilist went ahead to outline his plans for the youth towards the promotion of Peace in the country prior to the pending election saying.

‘’ We will embark on series of training which will happen in various communities to be able to promote peace and also organize some boxing clinics among the youth who love boxing so we can let them know that they have a future and shouldn’t lose hope’’.

‘’If they don’t get the chance to spend their time in classroom, they can rediscover their talent and be able to make good use of it. The youth shouldn’t feel hopeless for any Politician to use them in causing conflicts and instabilities. Ghana is bigger than any of the political parties’’.

Agbeko, who is rated in the Bantamweight and Super Bantamweight respectively, holds an enviable fighting record of 35 bouts, 30 wins, 23 by way of knockout and 5 losses.

The inexhaustible boxer, who is now under the tutelage of Royjones Promotions, was sanguine of an upcoming bout in Las Vegas slated for December this year.

He is likely to fight a boxer from Golden Boy Promotions whose identity is yet to be disclosed.

The highly-rated Ghanaian fighter defeated Tanzanian Haji Mwalugo Juma in a bout aimed at promoting Peace ahead of the General election in Ghana.
