Frank Nuttal Begins Hearts Career

Scottish trainer Frank Nuttal will officially begin his tenure as Hearts of Oak coach today, Thursday 17th February, the club have confirmed.

Scotland has produced great coaches and Nutall is no exception

Nuttal has been in the country for the past five days on the ticket of Hearts. He visited the team’s training last Saturday and spoke with the players.

He was also present at the opening day draw at the El Wak sports stadium against Inter Allies.

”Very happy to announce that I have been appointed as Head Coach at Accra Hearts of Oak in Ghana. Looking forward to the challenge ahead!” Nuttal posted on his official facebook page.

Hearts are searching for their first silverware since 2009 this season.

Here is all you need to know about the 48-year-old coach

— Nuttal was born in Hamilton, Scotland on May 10, 1968. He turns 49 in three months.

—He holds a BA in Human Movement from UWIC Cardiff (now Cardiff Metropolitan University) and an MSC in Sports Science from Loughborough University. He is also a UEFA Pro License holder, having acquired it from 2002-2004.

—He has been a coaching instructor for FIFA, the English FA, the Chinese FA and the Asian Football Confederation.

-He was the fitness coach of the England U-17 team that won the 2011 UEFA Championship and Assistant Coach and Head of fitness at Scottish club Rangers when they won the 2005 Scottish Premier League.

-He has worked as:

Assistant coach – Bristol City FC (2002-2003),

Assistant coach – Rotherham United FC (2003-2004),

Assistant coach and Head of Fitness – Rangers (2004-2006)

First Team coach – Al Nasr in the UAE (2006)

Head Fitness Coach and Head of Physical Development – Middlesbrough (2008-2009)

Assistant Coach – China National Football Team (2010-2011)

Coach and Performance Consultant – Hibernian FC (2012-2013)

First Team Coach – Qingdau Hainiu (2014)

Assistant Coach – Qatar Under 23 National Team (2014)

Head Coach – Gor Mahia (2014-2016)

Assistant coach – Zamalek – 2016

—Nuttal’s biggest achievement was winning the Kenyan Premier League back to back with Gor Mahia (2014 and 2015), the second of which was achievement with an impressive all-season-long unbeaten record (24 wins and 6 draws out of 30 games). He also won the 2015 Kenyan Super Cup and the Kenya Super 8 Cup with Gor Mahia. He was named Kenyan Coach of the Year in 2015.

—At Zamalek, he worked under the high profile Scottish manager Alex McLeish, whom he had worked with at Rangers over a decade earlier.
