Ghanaian-born former German international Gerald Asamoah is championing the pertinent issue of racism among German kids in schools in a bid to beat down the canker.
Gerald Asamoah a former star of Germany’s national football team played for the current world champions during the 2002 World Cup.
He now works with young people at the Rosa Parks School in Germany to promote tolerance and understanding, so that xenophobia and violence don’t take root.
With the recent xenophobia attacks in South Africa, the Ghanaian-born believes it is prudent to sensitize kids to be tolerant to each other.
The students at the Rosa Parks comprehensive school in the western German city of Herten who were enthusiastic towards Geralds arrival enjoyed their time with him.
“He’s really approachable for the students and sets a great tone with them,” said Stephanie Brzoza, a teacher at the school who serves as the contact for the school project. “When he comes here and speaks to the students, they love him.”
