And, surely, that list would not be complete without the mention of Gifty Ayew Asare, who is excelling in the National Junior College Athletics Association Soccer League Championship.

The hugely talented 19-year-old player is an utility who plays her role as left-back, attacking midfielder and striker with the aplomb of a decorated veteran.

Playing for the Lady Maverick in the Northern Oklahoma College, the gifted Ghanaian crushed home 23 goals with 11 assists in her very first season in 2016, since arriving in August.

Tipped by experts to stage a much bigger impact on the US women football next season, Asare told the Times Sports in a chat last week that she was committed to driving beyond her performance last season.

“Heartily for me, I made a remarkable mark last season on arriving from Ghana, but hope to work my fingers to the bone and endeavour to do better.

“All the same, I’m grateful to God for my performance as a new player in the team,” she stated.

For her goal-scoring prowess, Asare was splashed with an award by her employers, describing the honour as “highly awesome.”

The dazzling player got her first hat-trick in September during her side’s 7-0 annihilation of Bounty County.

Gifty was first called up into the national Under-17 side, Black Maidens, in 2014, but could not make the final cut for the team that represented Ghana at the Costa Rica FIFA World Cup tournament.

“I was then playing for Samaria Ladies when I was invited into the junior national team. I was really thrilled because I knew I was in great shape.

“Unfortunately, I was dropped for the FIFA World Cup, but got consoled by the fact that there’s time for everything. My time shall surely come one day.”

The Maverick star player had her first romance with football when she donned the jerseys for PSK Academy in Ayensudo and later Bafana Ladies in Elmina, all in the Central Region of Ghana.

According to Asare, who is also studying Nursing alongside her soccer career, her affection for the game is inexplicable.

“I have lived my life in various places of Ghana due to soccer and I’m really dedicated to the future of the game,” she asserted.

With a superb form that is attracting rave reviews in the US, Gifty hopes she would be glad to get a look-in when the national selectors put the Black Queens together.

“I’m all-too ready to play for my national team any day, anywhere and anytime,” she reassured.
