Ghana manager, Avram Grant, refused to write off his side’s chances of qualifying to the 2018 World Cup, following their 2-0 loss to Egypt on Sunday.

The Black Stars’ bid to qualify for the World Cup suffered a blow after losing to the Pharaohs in Alexandria, as they currently sit third in Group E with one point.

Ghana managed to dominate possession, yet goals by Mohamed Salah and Abdallah El-Said secured the three points for Egypt.

“I’m happy with the performance of the players. They did their best and I can’t blame them over the result,” Grant said during the post-match press conference.

“Football is a game of results. We dominated the game until the penalty but the result wasn’t in our favour despite our performance,” he added.

The 61-year-old coach refused to give up on his side’s chances of reaching the World Cup, but said they’ll now shift their focus on the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, set to kick off in January.

“We’ll be looking to win the Africa cup of Nations. We still have 12 points and we’ll fight to keep our chances of reaching the World Cup.

“Everything is possible in football,” he added.

Egypt top Group E on six points, two ahead of second-placed Uganda. Ghana’s next game in the qualifiers will be in August 2017 against Congo, who sit at the bottom of the group.
